As of Thursday May 21, 2015, three cases of the Canine Flu have been confirmed in Michigan: two cases in Kent County (West Michigan) and one in Macomb County (Southeast Michigan). While this isn’t making headlines or breaking news, it is important to be prepared.
Have you heard?
It seems that each season a new buzz is going around the pet community. This season we are introduced to a “new” dog flu vaccine that is marketed to protect our pets from the seasonal virus. Unfortunately, this vaccine like many others comes with more risks than benefits. Like with any vaccine, it contains preservatives such as Thimerosal (mercury), Formalin (formaldehyde), Gentamicin (antibiotic), Aluminum, Neomycin (antibiotic), Polymyxin B (antibiotic), Amphotericin B (antifungal), and Streptomycin (antibiotic).
Many of you have seen or heard the reports on the news about the "new" virus going around the Southeastern Michigan area. When I think of a virus, I never think of it as new. We’ve had viruses in our world for many decades. It’s just that our modern medicine sees it as an opportunity for new drugs and vaccines compared to treating it with herbs, homeopathics and other natural modalities that were used just a few hundred years ago before modern medicine filled our homes.
