It's RawFest 2018, our 10-day celebration of all things raw! If you have never heard of raw, feed partially raw, want to learn more about raw, are considering feeding raw, feel raw full time, or curious about raw, then this is an event for you!
Celebrating a Raw Diet
We have a lot planned for these next 10 days! We will have different companies in store handing out samples, celebrating with promotions, and answering all of your wonderful questions! No question is too small or too big. At The Pet Beastro, we have diligently selected the brands we carry because they meet our Beastro promise. We want you to feel confident that your selection and options you choose for your pet are only the best.
Your First Steps Toward Raw
Raw can be a scary endeavor if you have never used it before. At first, you can feel overwhelmed by a change in the routine - remembering that you need to thaw food or maybe feeling concerned and uncertain whether or not your dog or cat will like it. Then the choices can also be an overwhelming challenge. Each brand of raw food at our store has a unique and different story so there are benefits to each.
My Path to Raw
I first learned about raw feeding when I was still in college. Our family dog was diagnosed with cancer and my parents wanted to go the extra length to keep him happy to the end. We were introduced to feeding our dog raw around 1998. Although my mother grew up on a farm where the dogs were fed meat scraps, the pet food industry makes it easy to pick up a bag of bland dry kibble food just about anywhere, which is one reason why she quickly forgot about the power of raw meals. Sasha, my Siberian Husky, was my first dog and was transitioned onto a raw diet shortly after she came to live with me. She had a bout of digestion issues that were not easily cleared with conventional medicine and prescription foods. I listened to my gut and what we had learned with our family dog and I switched her to raw. Her digestion issues cleared up within 36 hours (after a three-week battle).
I quickly transcended myself into the pet food world in 2005 when I received my first bulk order of Oma’s Pride raw food. Amazingly at that time, there were few raw companies on the market and very few people understood what I was feeding my pets. The raw food market has grown so drastically that now there are even “bad” raw foods to avoid, just like kibble. I appreciate all the new companies who have come on the scene to preach about the benefits of a raw diet and how they are improving the industry’s thoughts and misconceptions about a raw diet.
