Nettle, also known as Urtica dioica or stinging nettle, is a plant that has many nutritive values.
Nettle, also known as Urtica dioica or stinging nettle, is a plant that has many nutritive values. It is rich in:
- Formic acid
- Histamines
- Chlorophyll
- Glucoquinine
- Vitamin C
It also contains large amounts of iron, which is vital to good circulation and can help reduce high blood pressure. Once the plant has been dried or lightly steamed, the compounds are broken down so we can enjoy its many nutritive properties. Beware: in order to harvest the young leaves, you must use caution. Nettle has thousands of hairs covering the entire plant that will sting your bare skin, resulting in painful blisters or hives. The leaves should be harvested when young and just before bloom.
