We’re always excited to share more about our team here at The Pet Beastro with you. Introducing our very own JP!
How did you first hear of The Pet Beastro?
I first found out about The Pet Beastro while searching on Indeed. I was burned out after a few years in a suit/tie mortgage job and, after taking a few months to recollect myself, began looking for something new. I had clicked the posting based on the name alone, just for fun, and soon found myself on The Pet Beastro webpage watching videos from Dr. Tack. It feels more like The Pet Beastro found me, since it wasn’t at all what I had been searching for, and is a far cry from the previous jobs I’ve held.
What is your educational background?
I attended Wayne State University as a Computer Science major with plans to enter their Mortuary Science program. After working as a Computer Tech in the Welcome Center, I dropped out of school at the end of my second year to pursue other opportunities.
Do you have animals?
There has never been a point in my life, from birth until now, when there hasn’t been an animal in my life! Dogs, birds, fish, newts, insects, etc., you name it. Currently, I have a chihuahua named Pixel (about 10 years old), a miniature pinscher named Tidbit (about 12 years old), and a rottweiler named Webbigail (about one and a half years old). All three are rescue animals and quite spoiled.
Why do you like cats and/or dogs?
Animals are easy to connect with emotionally. If you treat them well, they tend to react positively toward you, and it can be a rewarding experience to see the difference you can make with just a little time and care. The companionship they offer is worth more to me than even some familial bonds. I’ve yet to meet a size/breed of dog or cat – or any animal for that matter – that I don’t love, though I do quite admire the Pharaoh Hound.
What attracted you to working for The Pet Beastro?
The Pet Beastro is a passion job for me. I love to learn as much as I can about the well-being of dogs and cats and help others on that same path. I have lost dogs in the past who, although they had wonderful and lengthy lives, I know could have lived longer and happier if I had known then what I have learned now at The Pet Beastro.
How is working at The Pet Beastro different than other places you have worked?
The Pet Beastro is definitely different than working at the other places I have been. At other jobs, it’s quite clear that we are there to make money, turn cogs, all that standard business stuff. At the Pet Beastro, though we do make sales and push products to survive as a store, the care of the animal and the education of the customer always comes first. Dr. Tack is clearly invested in the goal of bringing health and quality food to cats and dogs, and her passion jumps to the employees and consistent customers. It’s impossible to not take pride in The Pet Beastro when you know and believe in the quality of the products, and the amount of effort that goes in to ensuring that only the best sources are accepted. Both customers and employees are brought together by the mutual interest of their animals, leading to a pleasant and generally peaceful environment.
What are your favorite products at The Pet Beastro?
My favorite products are Fluff & Tuff, Zignature, Carna4, and Hundur’s Crunch. Fluff & Tuff make some seriously high-quality toys; Webbigail, the 90-pound rottweiler, is finally able to have her own soft squeak toys to carry around as she pleases, lasting about a month per toy. I will always have a soft-spot for the Zignature brand of food as it just about saved Tidbit’s life. Tidbit has always had some severe issues when it comes to food. He was abused for the first half of his life, and has a lot of trouble digesting enough nutrients. During my second week on the job, I had described some of his issues to Dr. Tack and she provided me with a free bag of Zignature Kangaroo Kibble; we saw immediate results in Tidbit’s behavior and health. Tidbit is now happy and healthy on a raw diet, and the Zignature was the catalyst to his transformation into a better pup.
What I love about Carna4 is that when you call them on the phone for questions, more than likely you’ll be speaking directly with the president of the company. They are always ready and willing to help, and have a clear passion for food. I recommend the Carna4 sprouted seeds to just about everyone who walks through The Pet Beastro doors with allergy complaints. Hundur’s Crunch is a treat that I give to all three of my pups on a daily basis. It’s clean, it’s inexpensive, and they absolutely love it. During my time at The Pet Beastro, I’ve only witnessed two dogs turn down a Hundur’s fish treat.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m a homebody. I like to learn new skills, and research a wide-variety of topics to stay up-to-date with the latest news and technology. My goal is to have a working-knowledge of as many topics as possible; a true dabbler. I also cook, clean, and design/create puppets.
